South Chowdene Nursing Home in Chowdene, Gateshead
Located in Low Fell, a quiet residential area in Gateshead, South Chowdene care home is surrounded by beautifully landscaped gardens. It provides 24-hours nursing care, in addition to personal support to frail older people, people with long-term illnesses, people with disabilities or sensory deficits and people who need support generally.
Care and support at our nursing home is delivered through personalised care planning, a process that begins with assessment, carried out before admission where possible, and completed with the individual concerned, together with relatives. More information is built up on admission and over time as we get to know the person and their family. The care plan covers areas like needs, risks, likes and dislikes, so it provides a basis for areas as diverse as deciding about activities programmes, looking at any rehabilitative medical needs and discussions with our chef about diet (who will make sure meal choices reflect individual tastes). Regular reviews with the person we support, relatives, our team and any relevant health professional are an important element of the system.
We are always happy to see visitors or to help callers with advice.

Our 'Paying to live in a care home' guide is designed to try and help you understand more about the funding options available and what to consider when choosing a care home.

Kelly Angus
Hi, my name is Kelly and I am General Manager here at South Chowdene.
I started my career in social care at the age of 17 as a laundry assistant and it very quickly became clear to me that the health sector was an area I loved.
From working as a laundry assistant, I then became a carer. I was extremely keen to learn all I could and develop my knowledge and skills. I successfully completed my NVQ 2 in direct care. I immediately went onto complete NVQ level 3, before progressing to Unit Manager for a newly built 20 bedded dementia care unit with great success.
I left to complete my nurse training and after 3 years working in Accident and Emergency, I returned to the care home where my career had all begun. I simply love supporting and making people feel better and good about themselves.
I am constantly looking at how to improve a persons’ quality of care and day to day life. I look forward to meeting you when you visit the home.
